Since moving to Toronto from Sault Ste. Marie in 1984, jazz vocalist Lisa Martinelli has been an active singer and educator. She is a freelance artist in the Toronto area where she leads her own jazz quintet.

In addition, Lisa has worked with many notable jazz artists, such as Peter Appleyard, Ed Bickert, Guido Basso, Kenny Wheeler, Norma Winstone, and Fred Penner with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Lisa has appeared as a featured artist at the Toronto Jazz Festival, the Laurentian University Jazz Concert Series in Sudbury, the Kincardine Summer Concert Series, and Jazz at the Roxy in Owen Sound. Her performance as part of the Banff School of the Fine Arts Jazz Program was noted in Canada’s national jazz magazine, The Jazz Report.

Lisa maintains a busy teaching schedule at the University of Toronto and Humber College. She is currently the director of the University of Toronto Vocal Jazz Ensemble.

Lisa has a long history as a clinician and adjudicator at the Ottawa Kiwanis Music Festival and she has been invited to perform clinics and adjudicate for MusicFest Canada and universities, colleges, high schools, and festivals across North America.

For many years Lisa has been actively involved in the Jazz Vocal Program for the Interprovincial Music Camp and Kincardine Music Camp. Lisa is a graduate of the University of Toronto, Faculty of Music and Education, the Humber College Music Program, and she also attended the Banff School of Fine Arts. Her Master’s in Composition and Jazz Studies is in progress at York University.
