Director of both the Community Music School and the Intro to Commercial/Jazz Music Program at Humber College, Catherine Mitro has been active in education for over thirty-five years.
A graduate of Humber’s Music Department, Catherine has presented workshops for the Ontario Music Educator’s Association, the Toronto Board of Education, the Ontario Chapter of Orff Schulwerk and the International Association for Jazz Education.
Over thirty years ago, Catherine founded Humber’s Community Music School and has worked closely with leading musicians and educators to build the school’s current national and international reputation for innovative jazz education.
Catherine is also the Director of Youth Jazz Canada, a national level training program for talented Canadian youth.
Catherine has been awarded Humber’s Innovator of the Year Award along with the institution's prestigious Robert A. Gordon Leadership Award. In 2006 she was recognized by the TD Toronto Jazz Festival for Outstanding Contributions to Jazz in Toronto and in 2010 she was inducted into the MusicFest Canada Hall of Fame.
