Jazz pianist and composer Amanda Tosoff is an emerging artist on the Canadian jazz scene. She has been the recipient of various awards, including the CBC Galaxie Rising Star Award and the General Motors Grand Prix de Jazz at the Montreal Jazz Festival.
Amanda's groups have performed across Canada and abroad, and have opened for such luminaries as Bobby Hutcherson, Renee Rosnes, Oliver Jones, and Luciana Souza. They have also recorded for CBC Radio programs Hot Air, Jazz Beat, and Espace Musique’s live concert series Portraits Jazz.
As a bandleader, Amanda has released five recordings that feature her own original compositions: Still Life (Cellar Live, 2006); Wait and See (Cellar Live 2008), featuring trumpeter Brad Turner; Looking North (2010), featuring New York-based Ingrid Jensen, as well as Toronto's Kelly Jefferson and William Carn; Live at the Cellar (2013), featuring Vancouver’s Jodi Proznick and Jesse Cahill; and Words (Fall of 2015), a recording of compositions featuring the work of Canadian poets Tim Bowling, Laura Lush, Carole Langille, among others.
Amanda recently completed an MA at the University of Toronto, and currently maintains a busy teaching and performing schedule in the city.
